Ayu Tsukimiya (Seiyuu: Yui Horie), born in January 7 1982, aged 17. Height is 154cm (5'1"). Weight is 41kg (90lbs). Measurements are 80cm - 52cm - 79cm (31" - 20" - 31"). Hair and eye color is brown and red respectively.

Yuuichi and Ayu become fast friends after she meets him several more times in the shopping district although the truth is that they first met and became friends during Yuuichi's last stay in the city seven years previous. She comes off as somewhat strange, such as initially tackling Yuuichi and yelling "Yuuichi-kun!!!" whenever she spots him. These tackling fits eventually diminish in severity to simple taps on the back as time goes on or even simply calling out his name when appearing seemingly out of nowhere behind him.

Yuuichi quickly discovers how terrified Ayu will become at even the mere mention of ghosts or demons. When put into an uncomfortable situation, such as having to walk alone at night, she is noticeably jumpy and is prone to screaming. A main point in her storyline is that Ayu is constantly searching for something she has lost, and even she does not know what it is. Yuuichi plays an active role by helping her try to find whatever it is, even though it is initially unsuccessful.

Ayu Tsukimiya was a young girl that Yuuichi Aizawa knew seven years ago. He met her crying in the shopping district, where she introduced herself as "Ayu"; when asked for her surname, she said "Ayu" again. To get her to calm down, he bought her some taiyaki, her favorite food. Before parting, the friendless "Ayu Ayu" asked Yuuichi to promise to meet her again, so they could eat taiyaki together. Yuuichi came back every day after that and they eventually became very close friends. One day, Ayu came across a claw vending machine, and a small angel doll caught her eye. Yuuichi eventually won it for her, and when he gave it to her he declared that the doll would grant three wishes for her. However, it had to be a wish that he could grant.

Ayu in the tree she loved to climb. Ayu's first wish was that they could go to school together. Although Yuuichi could not fully grant that wish, as he lived far away, he told her that the forest could be their school. The meeting place would be a large tree they liked to play around, and climb on. They could come whenever they wanted, there would be no homework, they could eat whatever they wanted for lunch, and there would be no teachers to boss them around. Ayu's second wish was a much more simple one, as she asked simply that Yuuichi would never forget her. Ayu then wanted to save her third wish for the future, so she and Yuuichi buried the doll in a glass jar, much like a time capsule. She wanted somebody who "wanted the doll with all their heart" to find it, and get the final wish.

One day, while Yuuichi and Ayu were attending their "school", Ayu was sitting up in the tree when a gust of wind came and knocked her out of it. She ended up falling on her head, which caused her to go into a seven-year-long coma. However, from the revelation of the accident to the ending of the series, the viewer is led to believe that she is dead. This accident is what caused the young Yuuichi to suppress his memories of his childhood.

Yuuichi meet Ayu seven years later as a manifestation of her dream, and her wish to stay with Yuuichi. There were hints showing that she is stuck in the past, such as not knowing what a mobile phone was and believing that businesses are still as they were in the past. Akiko Minase, Yuuichi's aunt, is taken aback by the appearance of Ayu, takes note of everything that Yuuichi remembers, and muses that Ayu must have been waiting for him.

Yuuichi then begins to wonder about this mysterious Ayu. He only barely recalls her being his friend from the past, and forgot about the accident all those years ago. One day, Yuuichi and Ayu go out to the movies where they watch a horror movie. Ayu is terrified during the entire showing, most of which she spent under her coat or with her eyes closed.

Eventually, it is decided that Ayu should start living in the Minase house as one of the family, and when everyone agrees, Ayu happily joins her new family. During this time, Yuuichi believes that she goes to a different school which she said was in the forest. This is in fact the "school" that they had promised each other existed seven years previously. At this point, Ayu truly believed that the school existed. When Akiko falls ill, Ayu starts to panic despite it not being that serious. This goes back to Ayu's own mother dying from an unnamed illness, and Ayu was afraid the same thing would happen to Akiko.

One day, he asks her where she goes to school, and Ayu happily takes him to the tree. Once she realizes that there is no school there, reality begins to hit her and she realizes that she is not really there either. This implies that Ayu can only continue living in her dream, as long as she believes in it. During this period of realization, Ayu frantically tries to search for the lost doll, even going as far as to use her hands to dig in the snow to unearth it. After not finding the doll, her fake reality crashes and she disappears.

Ayu about to make her third wish on the doll. After this, Yuuichi finally remembers what happened all those years ago. He remembers that Ayu 'died' and he goes into depression. During this time, Yuuichi remembers the doll that Ayu buried, and gathers his friends to go find it. Once he gets it, and his friends leave, he stays at the forest until Ayu appears again. They have a tearful reunion, where Yuuichi reminds her of the angel doll, and that she has one more wish. Ayu wishes that Yuuichi will not remember her at all. Yuuichi simply refuse to fulfill it and tell her redecide. She did only whispering to Yuuichi her final wish. She disappear after that.

Unaware that Ayu is not dead, Yuuichi is feeling dejected at this point in time. Meeting Akiko on the streets, it is her who told Yuuichi that Ayu is not dead and is waiting for him in the hospital. He races over there to find Ayu in a coma. Since then Yuuichi has been taking care of her. His efforts paid off After some time as Ayu finally wakes up after all those years. Following this, Ayu recovers to the point where she is released from the hospital.
