How to connect to your E-mail System?

 

Connect to the Internet with my_id and my_password.


Click <Start> <Programs> <Outlook Express>

 

Alternatively

Double-click <Outlook Express> icon

 

 

 

How to open and read, write, send and receive, reply, forward, delete email (and more)?

 

When someone sends you an e-mail message, the e-mail message will be stored in your mail server. You will need to collect your e-mail message from the mail server before you can open and read them at the Inbox folder.

 

 

You can write, send and receive by clicking to the <New Mail> and <Send/Receive> buttons respectively.



You will need to know the list of Senders of your e-mail messages at the Contacts List folder.

Create and Send E-mail

Click <New Mail> button

There are two parts in an e-mail : the header (upper section) and the message box (lower section).

 

Header - To : type the e-mail address of the person you want to send the message to.

Cc: (optional)

Subject : type a short and meaningful description of your message

Message box -
type your messages as you would in a word processing program.

 

Send the mesage

Click <Send> button

Read E-mail

Click
<Inbox> folder in the Inbox List panel.

The e-mail messages contained in the Inbox folder will appear on the right in the Mesage List panel. E-mail mesages that are shown in darker print are unread while those shown in the lighter print are read.

To read the next mail, simply click the next item in the Message List panel, and the preview will appear in the Message Preview panel.

 

 

Receive E-mail or Check E-mail


Click
<Send/Receive> button


This is to check for messages on the mail server.


Should there be any messages, there will be an indication of new messages on the status bar, otherwise it will indicate there are no new messages.

 

 

 

Reply E-mail

You have received an e-mail message, you can reply to that message :

Click the message in the Message List folder

Click <Reply> or <Reply All> button

 

 

Practice Exercise 2

Select the message with the subject Hello

Click <Reply>

Type Thank for your message at the message box

Delete E-mail Message

As you send and receive more messages, the hard disk space used to store your message will increase. It is important that you manage your e-mail message by deleting unnecessary e-mail messages or messages that you no longer need.

 

Click the message in the Folder List folder

Click <Delete> button

Point to each picture in the web page

(i) right-click to display the short-cut menu;
(ii)
left-click to <Save Picture As>;
(iii) change the name of the file (optional)
and
left-click to <Save> at <My Document> <My Pictures> folder.
