Nanaka is one of Sana's childhood friends, and seemed to have feelings for Sana. When Sana returns to town after five years, her personality has completely changed from sweet and caring to a cold demeanor, and moody. When she meets Sana again after he returned she slaps him for apparently not knowing who she was. She still seems to have romantic feeling as she gets jealous whenever Sana is with another girl (especially Asami).

During one encounter after school, she accidentally hears Sana playing the half-finished song that she wrote for him five years before at his leaving party. She seems shocked, yet happy. Sana gave her a sakura bracelet/hair band during a summer festival when they were kids, which she still treasures years later. After the fishing and bathhouse trip, Sana gave her a pink seashell that he found at the river. She was very happy to know that she was the only one that received the seashell, in comparison to the same compact mirror that Sana had bought for Nanaka and Asami. Nanaka was a victim of possible arson shortly after Sana left Sakuranomori, and lost both her parents during the fire; she managed to escape the fire with only her violin and the sakura bracelet Sana gave her. Since certain parts of the event were unknown to her, she was placed as the main suspect of the event, causing her current cold and moody demeanor. She has her suspicion that it may be her uncle that is taking care of her right now that is the arsonist. But she did not move on and find out.

When Sana finally found out about what happened and promise her that he will take care of her from now on, Nanaka seems to be on the path of changing back to her former self slowly with much openness as well as happiness from her when she is with Sana. During their trip to the theme park and on the day's last ride, Sana once again promise Nanaka that he will be the one to protect her always. She felt even more assured that Sana will stay with her till death do they part. Apparently, he did.

After Syuri and Syusuke left the town, Nanaka is extremely sad by that. To cheer her up, Sana tries to invite her and Aoi to a camping trip at the Kotsuchi River again like the last time. But Aoi did not go due to a cold. Nanaka and Sana went alone and had a good time. Sana even show her the hideout he and Syusuke have when they were young. Most importantly, Nanaka had Sana with her when she started to remember what happened throughout the whole incident about the arson. She did hope that she would never want to remember it again.

After she knew that her father is the arsonist and literally tried to kill her and her mother due to some reasons, Nanaka cannot accept it. She kept herself inside the room ever since returning from the camping trip with Sana coming over to her home everyday to try to meet her. Perhaps it is due to Sana's persistence that save her life. Eventually, Nanaka grew up to be a young musician and decide to stage a musical performance in the now preserved Sakuranomori Nature Park. The tune she played there is the complete version of the song she played for Sana when he left town during their childhood. The title of the tune is unexpectedly Myself; Yourself.
